One such movie is Indian 2 starring Kamal Haasan, Kichcha Sudeep and Nedumudi Venu in the lead. The film is directed by S. Shankar and is expected to hit the screens in October 2023.
Donkey Flight
Donkeys have always been a favorite animal for children. They’re so cute and adorable, but they also have an important role to play in the Christmas story. This beautifully written kid-friendly retelling of the Bible story of Mary and Joseph traveling to Egypt features an endearing little donkey who helps carry them on their long journey.

In Punjab, thousands of Indians dodge immigration checks each year to immigrate to Canada and the United States via illegal backdoor routes dubbed “Donkey Flights.” Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming directorial Dunki is said to highlight this phenomenon in 2023. It will feature Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles.
Vaathi
Unlike his earlier work, Venky Atluri has opted to write and direct Vaathi from a child’s point of view. This film has a good message and it looks like the director has come out of his comfort zone here.
The movie is expected to hit the big screen on February 17 and it will feature Dhanush and Samyuktha Menon in lead roles. It is produced by Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas.
The movie is set in a rural backdrop and the plot focuses on a private educational institute adopting several government colleges to provide education to students from rural areas. Dhanush is one of the teachers who are sent to these colleges. He falls in love with a teacher played by Samyuktha. However, he soon realises that the adoption of these colleges is only meant to make money for the education mafia. The trailer is a good watch and Dhanush delivers a powerful performance.
Jailer
The film’s acrion drama is based on a criminal syndicate that tries to free themselves from prison. Its warden foils their attempts by putting on a show for the remaining inmates.
Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 is a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, and stars Senapathy (Kamal Haasan) as an elderly vigilante. The film is directed by Shankar and produced by Red Giant Movies and Lyca Productions.
Rajinikanth’s Jailer is another highly-anticipated Tamil film that is expected to release on April 14. It is bankrolled by Sun Pictures and features Superstar Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Yogi Babu, Shiva Rajkumar, Tamannaah, and Redin Kingsley among others in key roles.
Besides the two major releases, a few other highly-anticipated south films are expected to hit the theatres in 2023, including Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan II, Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu, and Jeo Baby directorial Kaathal: The Core. These films are a must-watch for all Tamil filmgoers.
Pushpa: The Rise
Pushpa (Allu Arjun) is a coolie who chops red sandalwood and sells it illegally by the kilo. He rises in rank till he becomes the leader of a syndicate. His biggest challenge is not his lady love Srivalli or the big-wigs Konda Reddy (Ajay Ghosh), Jolly Reddy (Dhananjay), Mangalam Srinu (Sunil) and their wife Dakshayani, but the fearless Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat who comes into his life at a crucial time in his career.
In this film, Sukumar continues to show his penchant for a good script and some excellent dialogues. It also has some decent action sequences and a few absorbing moments. The story might be a little stretched at times, but it is a must-watch.
